Foss Mountain Alpacas produces and sells alpaca yarn from our own animals, most often using the primary blanket fiber. The yarn is labeled with the alpaca or alpacas whose fiber made the yarn.
We have yarn from our brown alpacas in a variety of forms. We blend it with white to make a tweed. We also ply it with white to make a barberpole effect that works up tweedy as well. And we also have the solid browns, in dark chocolate shades and milk chocolate shades. We also have white and beige yarn.
Here at Foss Mountain Farm, we love our white and beige animals and have quite a few of them. I dye some of the yarn, especially the white, using Classic Country dyes. I have some wonderful colors, some of which are shown here in rainbow shades as well as solid.
Most of our skeins come in worsted weight 2 ounce center pull-balls. Email for pricing, as it changes depending on processing costs. In 2011 the price for natural yarn is $11.00 per ball and for dyed yarn is $12.00 per ball. Our yarn is processed by two mini-mills, one in New Hampshire and one in Maine. They are done in small lots, so you know which animal the yarns come from. Alpaca yarn is very soft and works up like a dream!
